
Kabsa Spice Blend
A homemade spice blend for kabsa and similar rice dishes.
A homemade spice mix for kabsa rice and similar rice dishes.
Like a Middle Eastern spice mix for rice.
Store the blend in a dry jar away from heat and moisture.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon whole cumin
- 1 tablespoon whole coriander
- 10 pods green cardamom
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 5 pieces loomi / black lime
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
- 1 tablespoon ginger
- 1/2 tablespoon turmeric
- Indian curry powder
Instructions
- Place the whole cumin, whole coriander, green cardamom, black pepper, and loomi / black lime in a frying pan to toast the spices.
- Toast the spices in the pan, as toasting releases their oils, flavor, and aroma.
- Break the loomi / black lime before continuing with the blending.
- Place the toasted spice mixture in the grinder.
- Add the sweet paprika, ginger, turmeric, and Indian curry powder to the grinder along with the toasted spices.
- Grind all the ingredients together in the grinder until they become a kabsa spice blend.
