A lentil dish from Pakistani cuisine.
A lentil dish from South Asian cooking, often served as a protein-rich stew or curry.
Think of a seasoned lentil stew.
Ingredients
- 1½ cups lentils
- chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 chopped tomatoes
- 2 chopped onions
- hot green peppers
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1.5 tablespoons dried chili pepper
- chicken stock
- 1.5 tablespoons pepper paste
- 1.5 tablespoons cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 cup olive oil
- Maggi seasoning
Instructions
- In a pot or saucepan, wash the lentils well, then add the Maggi seasoning as mentioned by the chef.
- In a pressure cooker or boiling pot, add 4 glasses of water to the lentils, then boil for 8 minutes until cooked.
- In a pot over the heat, heat the olive oil, then add the chopped onions with the salt and stir until softened.
- In the same pot, add the grated ginger and garlic and stir with the onions.
- In the same pot, add the ground coriander, curry powder, black pepper, half the cumin, and half the dried chili pepper, then stir.
- In the same pot, add the chopped tomatoes and leave them to soften slightly.
- In the same pot, add the pepper paste and stir it into the mixture.
- In the same pot, add the hot green peppers shortly before the end so they remain crisp.
- In the same pot, add the cooked lentils along with their water to the vegetable and spice mixture, then mix and leave over low heat for about 5 minutes until thickened.
- In the same pot, add the chopped fresh cilantro, then turn off the heat immediately.
- In a small frying pan or small pot, heat a little olive oil, then add a pinch of salt, a pinch of cumin, and a pinch of dried chili pepper.
- On the serving plate, spoon in the dal mixture, distribute the seasoned oil over the top, then sprinkle fresh cilantro over it.
