
Barazek Cookies
This is a Syrian barazek recipe, sesame-coated cookies filled or decorated with pistachios. The dough is made with egg, sugar, melted butter, Mazola oil, flour, mahleb, baking powder, vanilla, and salt. Ingredients
- two cups Flour
- three-quarters cup Sugar
- three-quarters cup Melted butter
- one-quarter cup Mazola oil
- one egg Egg
- for brushing Egg white

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees five minutes before baking.
- In a bowl, mix the egg with the sugar, vanilla, baking powder, mahleb, and a pinch of salt.
- Add the melted butter and Mazola oil to the bowl, then add the sifted flour and knead the mixture until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into suitably sized pieces, then let them rest briefly.
- Shape the dough pieces as desired using a mold or by hand on a suitable surface.
- Place the crushed pistachios in the base of the mold, then place a piece of dough over them and press gently so it takes the shape.
- Brush the rounds with egg white, then sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top.
- Arrange the rounds in a buttered baking tray.
- Bake the tray on the lower rack of the oven for six to seven minutes.
- When the edges turn pinkish, move the tray to the upper rack of the oven to brown the tops for two minutes.
- Leave the barazek to cool for half an hour before moving or serving.
