Whole Wheat Bread

Whole Wheat Bread

This is a homemade whole wheat bread recipe with simple ingredients: 4 cups whole wheat flour, 2 cups warm water, 1 tablespoon yeast, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon sugar, optional. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water, then add the flour and salt and knead until the dough is smooth. Let it rise in stages, divide it into pieces of about 100 g, roll them out, and cook them on a hot skillet until puffed and cooked on both sides.

A homemade bread made with whole wheat or bran flour.

Like a simple rustic sandwich bread.

Expect a dough-based bread; allow time for rising before baking.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups [570 g] whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups [400 ml] warm water
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the warm water to the yeast and leave for 10 minutes, until the yeast activates.
  2. In the mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour, then add the salt, and mix until a dough forms.
  3. In a kneading bowl or on a work surface, knead the dough until smooth and firm.
  4. In the kneading bowl, leave the dough to rest for 5 minutes.
  5. On a tray dusted with the same flour, divide the dough into pieces of similar weight; the chef states that each piece is about 100 g.
  6. On a tray dusted with the same flour, leave the dough pieces in a warm place for about 15 minutes.
  7. On a tray lined with a cotton cloth, roll out the dough pieces into loaves of even thickness.
  8. On the cotton cloth, cover the loaves and leave them to rest again for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  9. On a hot skillet, place the first loaf and cook over medium heat on both sides until puffed and cooked through.
  10. On a rack or cooling area, leave the loaves to cool after cooking, then store them in a bag or under a clean cloth.
